That's a Wrap

While I was pregnant I asked many "seasoned" mothers for suggestions before creating my baby registry. One item that was mentioned again and again was the "baby burrito". Neither Matt nor I knew what a "baby burrito" was but we quickly figured it out as we wandered the aisles of Babies R Us. In fact they were the FIRST items that we added to our registry!

"Baby Burrito" is the more common name for a Summer Infant SwaddleMe. They come in various sizes and prints and are made of 100% cotton, 100% organic cotton, or microfleece. As their website states,
"Research shows that swaddling may help reduce the risk of SIDS by promoting better sleep when infants are put to sleep on their backs. Swaddling also reduces the incidences of the startle reflex which is responsible for frequently waking babies. By recreating the comforting snugness and security of the womb, the SwaddleMe® has revolutionized the way babies and parents sleep."

Tanner and Abigail were home for a week or so before we used these "magical" sleeping aids. We experienced difficulty getting Abigail to sleep at night because she would constantly flail her arms and legs and keep herself awake. Matt remembered we had the "baby burritos" so we got them out, wrapped each baby up, and put them to bed. HALLELUJAH! The SwaddleMe wraps allowed Abigail and Tanner to go to sleep much faster and without constant soothing from us.

We went to Connecticut with Matt's family for Thanksgiving when Tanner and Abigail were about 6 months old. As we were putting them to bed the first night, we realized that I forgot to pack the SwaddleMe wraps! We were up with either one or the other all night long and eventually we had both of them laying (not sleeping) in bed with us. The next day we drove to the nearest Walmart to buy "baby burritos"!

We used the SwaddleMe wraps with Tanner and Abigail for naps and bedtime until they were about 8 months old. Some babies HATE being swaddled but Tanner and Abigail LOVED it...and we loved how they slept in them. After the SwaddleMe they transitioned to a sleep sack and eventually just pajamas. Tanner went through a funky napping pattern when he was about 11 months old and I used the SwaddleMe with him again to get him back into his normal routine. It worked like a charm! I am now a "seasoned" parent and I recommend "baby burritos" to every expectant parent that asks for registry advice!
